The mission of IMEDECS is to provide independent, informed expert medical review services that resolve coverage disputes or evaluate the quality of care. Through its medical review program, IMEDECS is dedicated to quality healthcare and improved clinical outcomes.

IMEDECS, a national Independent Review Organization (IRO), was formed to more effectively
respond to the "patients' rights" movement. Recognized for its integrity and quality, IMEDECS provides independent medical reviews of clinical cases involving potential or actual disputes of benefit coverage. Quality of care reviews on a patient, practitioner or facility basis are also available. IMEDECS maintains an extensive, highly qualified, credentialed Medical Review Panel.

In May 2000, IMEDECS was awarded national accreditation as an Independent Review Organization by URAC (also known as American Accreditation HealthCare Commission). IMEDECS is a founding member of the National Association of Independent Review Organizations (NAIRO).
